DescriptionFour figures on a stone seawall in the foreground, three with long fishing poles. A large engine-driven ship in the right foreground, two sailing ships in the left background. This image is quite similar to the other Feininger woodcut in the Murray collection, 1992.1.1, although this image is comparatively more detailed, while the latter is more monolithic.
Translucent cream-colored tissue-like laid paper mounted on a darker tan paper backing. The image sheet is so lightweight that it is colored by the backing. However, it is not a blue-grey as appears in the present TMS record photo(2/2010). The paper is so thin that the ink soaks through to the back leaving a complete image with shadows of the wood grain from the printing block.
Examined unframed JES 2/11/2010.
