DescriptionStudy of a nude female figure in motion in four views, each overlapping and metamorphosing into the next. The left and right views are similar with the figure raising her right leg and foot as if stepping up, the knee bent at about 75 degrees. The left view is more abstract which is typical of Armitage's sculptural forms. It is also set against a more solid black ground. The second image from the left is frontal and stands on her left leg with the right knee bent at 90 degrees and the foot raised backwards so that the calf and foot are behind the front plane of the figure and not visible. This figure also has a largely disembodied right arm set at mid torso with the hand angling upwards to breast height. The elbow of this arm extends into the picture space of the left end figure. An arm extends from the left waist of the second figure protruding into the image of the back of the next (third from left) figure. This third figure is stepping forward and somewhat to the back of the picture plane with her left foot on the ground and the right knee at a 45 degree angle with the toes of the right foot touching the ground and the heel raised. An arm without a hand extends from her right side into the picture space of the right hand figure. Armitage's sculpture is frequently comprised of multiple abstract figures overlaid with one another, giving energy and motion to his three-dimensional works as it does to this work on paper.
Printed in black ink with grey ink 'shadows' that gives it a screenprint appearance.
May be preparatory to a sculptural work.
