DescriptionProbably intended as garden or outdoor sculpture. Life-sized figure of a girl wearing a bead necklace that she is twisting in her left hand. She is peering to her left around a tree trunk pedestal with an urn on top (urn is a separate, removable element). The urn handles are in the form of an oak branch and leaves with a squirrel forming the upper curve of the handle.Per Wallace (see NOTES), "Hide and Seek!", a related figure of a boy, was made as a companion piece. He is 1992.4.35. The two differ in several small ways. The bark of the tree on .34 is rougher, the foliage on the urn more elaborate and the rounded rectangular base is squared off at the back. This and other construction elements visible on the back indicate that it was not made to be seen in the round, while .35 might have been.ProvenanceGlens Falls, NY, Charles R. Wood
