DescriptionTwo female figures facing each other, three-quarter length profile view of both. The figure at the right has her left arm bent at the elbow and extends that hand toward the opposite figure just touching her right sleeve. The left figure's right arm and hand are slightly extended so the fingers touch the skirt of the opposite figure. Both are stylized with long hair and high foreheads and seem to emulate early Renaissance (Giottoesque) images. The left figure wears a narrow choker and dress with scalloped horizontal stripes that is mimicked by the choker worn by the opposite figure. The dress worn by the right hand figure is simpler and probably of a solid fabric.
Narrow frame of striated wood with rubbed grey-blue finish. Linen mat having a deep gold colored bevel.Exhibition History"What's New? Recent Acquisitions 2008-2010", Hoopes Gallery, The Hyde Collection, March 3 - May 29, 2011.Provenance1965, New York, NY, Parke Bernet (auction)
