DescriptionThe panel is one of several oil studies for the first of Seurat's large compositions, "Bathers at Asnières" 1883- 84 (National Gallery, London). The panel depicts the shore of the Seine at Asnières, with the tip of the island of La Grande Jatte (the subject of Seurat's best known painting--AIC) to the right.
