MarkingsImpressed mark on lower left: block letters "CP" conjoined (to the left of the edition number). According to the Tate catalogue of their works by Hepworth, Stanley Jones of Curwen Studios started a 'pilot scheme' in a studio in St. Ives (Cornwall) in 1958 and in late 1968 spent 2 weeks working with Barbara Hepworth creating the suite of 12 lithographs to which this print belongs. LR watermarked "BH". According to the Tate's catalogue, these prints were printed on handmade Barcham Green paper with the watermark "BH". Printed label on frame backing paper: " princeton gallery of fine art 9 SPRING STREET, PRINCETON, N.J./ 08540/ 609/921-8123" Stamped lower left of frame backing: "RAG MAT"
DescriptionLines intersecting at right angles, some forming squares and rectangles on a textured-looking ground. The artist may have placed the paper of the original drawing on a rough stone surface and rubbed with charcoal over it. Six circles probably drawn using a compass; four about 5" in diameter, 1 about 3 1/2" and one about 4". Pale blue is "painted" with thin drippy lines mostly in the area of the circles but scattered throughout the field. Three of the circles have a crescent of blue brushed along a section of the inner edge as if to create dimension. The top center circle has almost all the textural ground rubbed into a soft "opaque" grey.

Matrix of print ink appears to be the product of photolithography.

Unframed.
