MarkingsImpressed block letters "CP" conjoined, to the left of the edition number, for Curwen Prints or Press. According to the Tate Gallery catalogue of their works by Hepworth, Stanley Jones of Curwen Studios started a 'pilot scheme' in a studio in St. Ives (Cornwall) in 1958 and in late 1968 spent 2 weeks working with Barbara Hepworth creating the suite of 12 lithographs to which this print belongs.
DescriptionPrinted in relief with six raised embossed diagonals parallel across the image. Three pairs are narrow and the others make wider strips that create 'compartments' in the print. Hepworth, primarily known for her sculpture, is giving a third dimension to the print, sculpting the lithograph stone and the paper in turn. The print has scattered horizontal and vertical lines printed in black in addition to a circle with bright yellow in the upper right and a circle with black shading in the center of the left side of the image.

Modern museum oak frame with cream-colored mat. Framed with plate mark under mat (see condition notes).
