SignedSigned in the mold "Anna V. Hyatt", in block printed upper and lower case letters, inscribed on the upper left of the neck
MarkingsStamped on the right upper edge of the neck "GORHAM CO. FOUNDERS" followed by "QUN" a code indicating that Gorham cast the piece for Huntington, she was not hired to create the work for the company. The code system is described in detail by Gorham Company scholar Sam Hough, at his website, www.owlbridge.com:
"A much more successful category was Gorham bronze casting. The code for foundry works was 'Q.' Bronzes for which Gorham owned the rights-- either because the pieces were made by salaried employees or because rights had been purchased as royalties paid-- were assigned numbers, thus Q135. These were usually small objects (statues, bookends) sold in Gorham rtetail stores. When the Foundry's services were hired by a customer, usually the artist, and the casting was provided for that customer, the 'Q' prefix was followed by letters: QBZ."
