DescriptionThe suite of 12 engravings on the theme of industry and idleness from which this print comes are unlike Hogarth's earlier graphic work (Rake's Progress, Marriage a la Mode etc., in that they were not engraved after paintings, but were originally conceived as prints.This engraving is Plate 8, Proverbs Ch: IV. Ver: 7,8. Text at top of engraving reads "The INDUSTRIOUS 'PRENTICE grown right, Sheriff of London." Shows a group of people eating at tables.
