DescriptionThe backs of buildings along a river with sloping, muddy banks. Titled in the plate "The Little RIver, Hartford," which is a tributary to the Connecticut River in Hartford, CT. The title seems somewhat odd in that the image does not show a typical river with grassy banks, but instead has the look of a tidal river, where the banks are muddy. The image is like some Whistler, Thames-side views of a similar period (see 2009.2.5 Eagle Wharf, or 1979.3.1, Billingsgate). The elongated dome does appear to be that of the newly constructed, Upjohn-designed Connecticut state capitol building.See also 1977.12Provenance1977, Glens Falls, NY, The Hyde Collection Trust
