InscribedIn pencil next to the signature is wrtten on each piece an "R" number (all starting with 5) and then "Stockholm" The R may relate to the ripping done to create the work, but there are many other works in LeWitt's so-called $100 Drawings series that are not ripped but have R numbers.

Each of the nine torn paper objects in this series has its own "R" number, 1988.12.1 is "R 524".
